Hello Davydomes, Just joined myself so getting used to this forum and this addiction to Raleigh Choppers. Recently purchased a mk2 from eBay and a mk1 tall frame from Youngs with another one on its way, but always on the look out for another. Is there any buy/sell area linked to this forum?? cheers, Gary. Hi Gary, I haven't seen one on the forum.

I'm soon to start a mild restoration on a upturned cleat with hub date January 1970 and frame number 0766980

So busy looking the Chopper, I didn't clock the car! Is that a Chevy Camaro? Nice ride! Is it yours?

Welcome aboard. To my limited knowledge, it looks like an early 1970 because of the upturn cleat bracket that attaches the seat post tube to the two small crossbar tubes. The spoke guard looks wrong but I don't know if they were different on some US bikes. I would expect it to be chromed steel. May be the back wheel has been changed. Check the hub as it should have a year and month stamped on it i.e. 70. 2 which would be February 1970. There are experts on this site who will no doubt be able to give you a more comprehensive review. The tyres have been changed. Perhaps the pedals are US spec but others will know better. It's a start anyway.
Nice find!

I would study as much as you can about the different types of chopper. What I mean is, even though I am a relative newcomer to the scene I can now spot some parts on bikes that are advertised as "original" restored to notice wrong pedals, decals, grips, chain wheel, front wheel, brake pulls etc. Decide on what model you want (Tall Frame, Sprint, High Back, "standard" 3 speed, up-turned cleat, crossover, Mk1 or Mk2 etc.) Check out the prices they are going for. You have a healthy budget and should get something really nice for your money. I have found there is far more to this iconic bike than meets the eye.

Hi everyone, I have just bought my first chopper today, however I'm not sure it's a real one! Can anyone tell from the photo? The wheels look correct. But I've never seem one with this kind of frame. Cheers. Rob. Hi and welcome. There are some real experts on this page but to my untrained eye it looks like a Vindec.

Greetings from The Netherlands
Moved over here from the UK about 12 years ago. Have only seen 1 Chopper in that time!? It's time that changed...............Want to get hold of a Mk 2 Prismatic ( just like I had 30 years ago...!) and show the Dutchies what a cool bike really looks like! If any of you can point me in the right direction - much appreciated. Currently searching Gumtree/Craigs List to see what's on offer. Looking forward to introducing my young daughter to the world of Raleigh Choppers There's one on eBay UK at the moment. Currently at £200 with a "buy it now" of £375. It ends 6th December.

You found that pic yet? We are all waiting! Ransacked my house! I'm sure I had it here but might be at my Mums old house where my brother now resides. It could be anywhere there I haven't seen it for a while. I will keep looking - want to find it as it is the only photo I have of an old mate of mine who sadly passed away 8 years ago.

Hi there and welcome. Any pics of your original mk1 crossover? Period chopper photos are always great. I have one only! I am looking high n low for it. Me and two mates. One had a standard Mk1 in Horizon Blue the other a Raleigh Rodeo couple of months after the pic got an orange standard Mk1. He later had a rear parcel rack fitted and I'm sure it was meant for a Mk1. I'll keep looking. Sorry for using wrong thread to introduce myself - Doh!

Hi, been hovering around in the background for a couple of years. Normally restoring cars but have had a secret hankering to relive my youth. I got one of the first crossovers in Horizon Blue - it was ages before I saw another Mk1 with a Square Cissy Bar. Anywho! Have acquired a upturned cleat Mk1 that has been painted a none standard red colour with wrong seat, wrong pedals, nuts etc. Will be doing a sympathetic resto and returning back to original where I can. So hello everyone! I will no doubt be asking questions mainly about history. Based in North West.
