Hi, my name is Mitch and I have been a chopper owner early since 1969. Just found The Hot One this morning and I'm happy to join! So my bike is a 1968/1969? tall frame that I purchased new in Milford CT. USA. I'm just beginning to restore it and so I would appreciate advice and maybe help locating parts.

I have some of the bike as it was before disassembly. It got painted over by a family member using a rattle can sometime during the 1980' s. I'm going to attempt to remove that to expose the original green. I recently acquired the correct pedals as the originals disappeared at some point. I am currently looking for a 3+2 shifter cover with the small window. Any thoughts on a source?

Hi all (from not so sunny Middlesbrough).
Just acquired a mk2 chopper frame and plan to fully restore it......first I've got to figure out how to get the remains of the old sissy bar out though!
Know absolutely nothing about restorations but have an engineering background so thats a start!
Hope to pick the brains of all you guru's out there....

Welcomes.. liking the name "Tamiya" anything to do with the r/c cars? Guilty as charged Another overgrown kid with nostalgic bent. Sadly everybody is into retro/repop mode, every big-in-the-70/80s-toy companies even the likes of Tamiya have chomped the wackytobakky... they're gradually rereleasing everything in their back catalogue. At least they're still MADE IN/BY SAME FACTORY as original from 40yrs ago not outsourced to foreign sweatshop, repop parts are totally interchangeable with old... and OH&S haven't gotten a lookin

Stems broken off inside or still intact just rusted stuck? Does your Engineering Background come with a decently equipped workshop including a CNC Spark Erosion device?

Hi, if penetrating oil fails and you are going to repaint it try a bit of localised heat on the frame tubes with a blow torch. Wooden block in the sissy bar hoop and give the wood an upward smack with a hammer. If the hoop has been removed and you're just left with stubs sticking out. Still apply the penetrating oil and/or heat and use stilsons (plumbers wrench) to twist it out. If totally snapped off inside then drill out. Have you any pics?

I know the story.. i used race bitd.. the Tamiya Fox.. like to get my hands on a new on if they release another. The old ones would be too brittle and expensive to use now. Well you're in luck!! The Fox got re-re'd in 2013, biggest change they made was name "Nova Fox" (#58577). They fiddled with a few minor things like the steering servo weather sealing (makes no difference), added front sway bar (looks naff, I didn't bother screwing it on), changed hexbones to dogbones (yay!) & shocks are modernised but otherwise the Nova Fox runs just like the oldie. Bought mine from first batch when released, stock sold out for a few mths but since then think they've been bringing out fresh batches. Still not too hard to find a new kit today afaik. Or buy an original wreck & restore values aren't crazy high, resale dipped after re-re... parts interchangeable with new so spares are easy to buy now - cracked arms were common on Fox. (Then again, if you bought F&R arms, wheel & tyre set plus a body parts set... might as well just buy the whole new kit - be about same $$) Fox runs surprisingly fast stock out of box on 540. I run them alongside Wild One & Frog.
