Hi all just joined the forum so saying hello. I had a much loved chopper when I was a kid. I think my dad bought me it for Christmas in 1970, so although I didnt realize it at the time it was a mk1 one of the originals in the uk. It was red/orange and I eventually outgrew it and gave it to my younger cousin. Years later outside milton keynes station i saw someone by the taxi rank on what i now know as a mk2 chopper. The lady let me sit on it and my love for the bike was rekindled. I have since bought a mk1 and mk2 chopper and am trying to do them up a bit. Have read various posts and forums I am now trying to accurately date the mk1 and establish if it is all original as much as possible. Could anyone advise please? The date on the rear hub is 72 1 so January 1972. I hope this means it was one of the late mk1 bikes as I know the mk2 was released in 1972. Assuming the rear wheel was part is the original bike. The frame is red/orange with solid black "CHOPPER" and "Raleigh" decals and the frame number on the drop out is 1447060. Any assistance appreciated thanks.
