Hi, I had a slightly unusual mk2 chopper as a kid. From looking at pictures on the internet it definitely had a sprint seat and front wheel but had normal chopper handlebars. It was a metallic dark red. Sadly, it was taken away by the scrap metal man when I bought my BH bmx from Halfords!
I like anything retro from the 70's and 80's and have got a mk2 Upside Down Chopper Framed Bike an Extra Burner and a BH California that I have restored. I've been thinking about a chopper for a while and decided to jump in an have bought a Mk2 chopper to restore. The restorations I've done on my bikes are not show quality at all but are good rider standard. I've done the London to Brighton on the Upside Down Chopper Framed Bike and the Burner and intend to use the Chopper this year.
The Chopper I've bought is a mk2 in purple and looks original but pretty rusty.
The hub is dated June 1972. The handlebars are separate from the stem which I didn't expect on a Mk2. Also it looks like the forks were originally orange so I don't know if the forks have been replaced at some time?
It took a couple of hours to get it dismantled except for the seat post and the sissy bars.
I've got the sissy bars soaking and will have a go at wrestling them out in a week or so. Most of the chrome will need redoing although some of it may be too far gone. Should be a fun project any help or advice is gratefully received!
